Packaging Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for packaging development for new products, defective reduction, cost savings, quality improvements, and optimizing design.   This position will be located in Easton, PA and report directly to the Director Product Engineering.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for the design, integrity, safety and market competitiveness of packaging
    • New Products: Ensure packaging meet cost targets, quality/performance objectives and consumer safety.
    • Current Products: Pro-Actively establish and execute product cost reductions, quality improvements and feature enhancements to maintain or increase market share and company profitability.
  • Design, conceptualize, prototype, and sustain packaging documentation for new and existing products to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping conditions.
  • Compose detailed specifications and bill of materials for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging, along with P.O.P promotional vehicles.
  • Analyze and select materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness including, but not limited to, paper, paperboard, corrugate, labels, PVC, PET, and PP.
  • Work with internal and external teams to develop product packaging and promotional vehicles, by sampling and quality testing.
  • Drive projects forward while they are being developed / quoted
  • Think outside normal job responsibilities to help improve entire design process.
  • Reducing the time required to develop new products and/or a timely analysis/implementation of product changes.

Technical Experience Requirements:

  • Ability to create Point of Purchase vehicles.
  • Must create product performance specifications and 2D/3D product documentation
  • Responsible for new and existing product initiatives;
    • Provide cost effective packaging solution for finished products;
    • Review, optimize, and validate packaging method based upon customer and cost requirements
    • Ability to analyze and select materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness including, but not limited to, paper, paperboard, corrugate, labels, PVC, PET, and PP is a plus.
    • Review and resolve packaging issues with suppliers as needed
  • Understands packaging design, ASTM and ISTA testing procedures.
  • Ensure new product compliance with all legal / regulatory / competition requirements;
  • Ad hoc technical projects

Qualification:

  • Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering or related field
  • Computer program knowledge in CAPE, Solid Works and Microsoft Office required
  • Worked in the Consumer Products Industry dealing with Mass Market Retailers a plus
  • Experience and sense of problem solving knowledge;
  • Proactive individual who can work under high pressure and drive project to meet deadline without excuse;

Product Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

Primarily responsibility is supporting new product development, innovation, cost savings and defective reduction.  This position will be located in Easton, PA and report directly to the Sr. Director Product Engineering and Asia Operations.

Essential Duties:

  • Technical Lead; Background in Injection Molding preferred; Experience or understanding of Cabinet/Wood Working a plus

  • Reducing the time required to develop new products and/or a timely analysis/implementation of product changes.

Qualification:

  • B.S. or above in Engineering/Science (Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology);
  • Minimum 2 years of product engineering experience in new product design & development; Familiarity with China/Asia manufacturing processes and lean manufacturing a plus but not a requirement.
  • Must have solid engineering fundamentals and be able to apply them
  • Ability to create and modify files in either Solid Works and/or AutoCAD
  • Knowledgeable in principles of design for injection molding
    • PS Extrusion, Metal Fabrication, Progressive Die Stamping and Assembly is a push but can be learned or developed over time
    • Knowledgeable in design for manufacturability a plus
    • Knowledgeable in plastic material performance and selection a plus
    • Experience and sense of problem solving knowledge;

Product Designer

The leading manufacturer of picture frames, mirrors and home décor is looking for a highly creative, self-motivated individual to join Easton, PA in-house Product Design team. Individual must possess the ability to develop and execute a creative strategy for new product lines for the framing and home décor industry.

Requires communication of concept through sketching, creating theme boards, developing construction details and executing technical drawings, and working with overseas factories to successfully develop and execute the product.

Must possess an ability to understand current home fashion and consumer buying trends and how to translate that into successful product solutions. Ideal candidates must be able to take direction, yet think, and be motivated to work independently. Candidate must be detail oriented, able to adhere to tight deadlines and manage changing priorities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree. Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design or Graphic Design with experience in consumer product industry or equivalent design expertise.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Product Design/Development.
  • Sketching skills required.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite applications.
  • Knowledge of Solidworks 3D CAD Design software a plus but not necessary.
  • Basic foundation in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Salary based on experience.

Product Manager

A Product Manager at MCS Industries is the hub of product ideation, pricing, and deployment. A typical day will find a Product Manager coordinating product development and sample requests, developing pricing reports and merchandise strategies, preparing presentations along with our Platform Teams, and ensuring committed items are on-boarded properly. A Product Manager provides leadership and synergy for cross-functional teams, while owning New Product Development (NPD) metrics for time, cost, quality, and execution.

Job Knowledge

The Product Manager will have product management experience developing hard home consumer products within stringent timeframes. Flexibility is crucial, as championing multiple programs for assorted retailers is routine. Proven success in a team environment and strong English communication skills are important, as are knowledge of manufacturing processes with Far East resources and an understanding retail environments – particularly mass merchants. The proper candidate will be able to demonstrate solid financial fundamentals, and will be able to analyze product specs and costing against perceived consumer value. And while we are willing to train, the ideal Product Manager will have experience with 1 World Sync, SA2, and/or Edgenet.

Essential Functions:

  • Analysis of item and customer sales monthly and annually
  • Continual gap analysis for customer offerings
  • Rationalization of new products for customer Product Line Reviews (PLRs)
  • Strategizing of customer presentations, product offering and sales collateral
  • Ownership of Request for Quotes (RFQs) and sample requests
  • Responsibility for Cost/Price worksheets to establish pricing that meets both customer and corporate needs
  • Reporting to team and management about project status
  • Coordination of Go Forwards and item on-boarding for committed properties
  • Preparation of all customer domestic and import quote sheets
  • Assistance to Planners and Buyers to establish inventory and order levels
  • Facilitation of Factory Spec Sheets through Engineering
  • Assistance to Customer Service on new product training
  • Accountability for product life cycle management and SKU Rationalization
  • Generation and submission of weekly activity reports to Manager of PM
  • Assistance in location, delivery, and identification of product samples
  • Monitoring of new product performance by analyzing POS and store walks/surveys
  • Autonomously-motivated with minimal direction and supervision.

Communication Skills

The Product Manager must be able to communicate effectively when dealing with colleagues, managers, retailers, and factories. This includes the use of nonverbal communication such as eye contact, body language and posture, as well as written communication with parties both internal and external.  Candidates with proven ability to write and proof copy – including instruction sheets and product descriptions – are preferred.

Physical Requirements

The Product Manager must be able to perform the physical tasks of the position. This position works in an office environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to sit at computer workstation and/or desk for a full shift.
  • Ability to enter data and look at monitor for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to rack and set planograms as necessary for Product Line Reviews.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business or equivalent is the minimum requirement for a Product Manager. At least 5 years of New Product Development experience in a manufacturing company performing similar functions is necessary. Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office and PC computer systems is required.

 

 

 

Assistant Product Manager

This position will assist in all product management functions for MCS Industries. Projects may be initiated by product managers, key account sales representatives, company executives, and/or development team members.

Job Knowledge

Knowledge of picture frame and home décor industry as well as major retail practices is preferred.

Essential Functions:

Assist in the preparation of Request for Quote (RFQ) forms, RFQ Reference Numbers, and Sample Requests

  • Communicate as necessary with overseas suppliers on pricing and sampling issues
  • Populate pricing spreadsheets with RFQ data for Product Managers’ review
  • Track, receive, review and submit product samples to be inventoried
  • Prepare and ship samples on behalf of Product Managers as requested
  • Assess and present competitive market landscape for applicable categories
  • Maintain and submit a weekly Traffic Report to Manager of Product Management
  • Rationalize new product selection for specific projects as requested
  • Develop presentations and coordinate samples as necessary for meetings
  • Facilitate Factory Spec Sheets through Engineering
  • Evaluate product performance at key accounts and in general
  • Provide case for suggested product inclusions and deletions
  • Assist other divisions as requested on various corporate initiatives

The Assistant Product Manager must be able to communicate effectively when dealing with other associates, supervisors, managers, staff, factories, and retailers. This includes the use of nonverbal communication including eye contact, body language, and posture, as well as written communication through product descriptions, regular reports, and email.
